What is Green Boroughs?
Hello! My name is Les Judd. I launched Green Boroughs on Earth Day, April 22, 2007. The company's mission is to provide the information that entrepreneurs and small business owners need to help them start a green business or make their existing business greener.
I am a lifelong environmentalist. One of my fondest memories is of being part of a volunteer cleanup of the local brook in Ossining, NY where I grew up. I was a founding member and leader of the environmental action committee at my synagogue, B'nai Jeshurun on the Upper West Side. I am the coordinator of the NYC Vegetarians, a social club for vegetarians and vegetarian friendly New Yorkers. I have been a hike and urban walking tour leader for various groups over the years.
I have a BA in Anthropology from SUNY Brockport and an MPA in Non-Profit Administration from New York University. My professional experience includes ten years in NYC government and several years as an Accounts Payable Specialist for Cabrini Medical Center. I always wanted to work for an environmental organization but had difficulty finding the right fit. Finally, in April, 2007 I decided to launch my own for-profit company to promote green business and green living in New York City.
I teach "How to Live Green and Save Green in NYC" and "How to Start a Green Business" at local colleges and independently. You can also take these classes privately by phone or in person on a one-on-one basis.
Green Boroughs provides One-on-One consulting services to entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to start a green business or make their existing business greener. We help guide you through the steps you need to take to make a green business and save some green in your pocket as well.
I have special expertise in the 3 Rs of waste prevention: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. I can help you find ways to reduce waste and save money for your company. I also have particular interest and expertise in helping restaurant owners make their restaurant green. I can help you decide what level of green you want to make your restaurant.
The Green Boroughs Walking Tours take participants to the newest, coolest green stores, buildings, parks, community gardens and other green places in New York City. We are the only tour company in New York City offering tours like this. Participants have an opportunity to chat with green business owners, learn how they made their business green, as well as touch, smell and sample green products. I am a licensed NYC Tour Guide. Group tours and customized walking tours are also available. We have two tours in Manhattan and one tour in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
The Green Boroughs Information Network brings business owners together once every month to hear a local eco-entrepreneur speak about their challenges and rewards. We meet in a quiet and informal setting to exchange ideas, network, teach each other, and help each other grow their business in an eco-friendly, sustainable manner.
Our company also helps New York based corporations organize in-house Earth Fairs to educate employees about the sustainable lifestyle in New York City.
